Are there mean people where you work?

I have been in the field of education for over thirty years and have worked in many capacities. We teach children to be kind and tolerant of each other, how to resolve differences through mediation and Character Education models. Schools are supposed to be the perfect place to prepare students to go forth in the world and be productive team players. Right?
Well guess what?
There are adults in education and in many workplaces who never learned fair rules and they are mean, hurtful bullies.
I am troubled by the amount of intimidation and bullying that takes place in "The Little Red School House". Teachers bully other teachers and students, administrators bully other administrators, teachers bully administrators and administrators bully teachers, union reps bully teachers and administrators all of whom behave just like kids who are bullies.

When I tell friends who are not in education about the behaviors that I encounter in schools, they are shocked. I have also been told of situations in many work environments where employees work in fear.

So what do we do about bullies in the workplace especially for those who are at the lower end of the pecking order of the workforce and feel that they have no voice or support ( tenure, seniority, young/old, etc.)?
